Currently reading: "Getting Ghost" by Luke Bergmann

Because we are located near several colleges and universities, it isn't unusual for someone to ask for help making a works cited page. Yesterday was a massive snow day, and many of the local schools were closed, so we got in a lot of students working on assignments.
A woman came up to the desk and handed me some sheets of paper and asked me how she should cite this newspaper article. I looked at her papers and told her, for starters, what she had wasn't a newspaper article; it was a selected piece from an anthology that had been uploaded onto a database. Ok, so I'll give her that it was confusing at first. I get that.
You know how when you want to solve a math problem, you just find the formula that fits the question, plug in the numbers and get the solution? Making a works cited is sort of like that. You find what kind of work you have, you look at the proper citation structure and then you plug in the information you have. This is not rocket science. At least I didn't think so.
She handed me her APA style manual, we found the right thing to copy and then we copied it. Somehow, this was totally astounding. During the process she said, "Oh, you must have taken this class before." Then, after telling her I hadn't had Professor Whoever's Intro to Comp, she said, "Wow. I guess you're just really good at books. And stuff."
Ah yes. I rock. And stuff.
